The Framework Convention on Climate Change is an important international agreement that unites countries’ efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to climate change.
The Kyoto Protocol, in turn, is the first international agreement obligating developed countries to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. It plays an important role in global efforts to combat climate change.
The Paris Agreement is a key document adopted at the COP21 conference, which seeks to limit global warming to below 2 degrees Celsius and take action to achieve the 1.5-degree target.

Countries' NDCs

Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) are a key element of the Paris Agreement and help achieve its long-term goals. NDCs reflect the efforts of individual countries to reduce emissions at the national level and adapt to the impacts of climate change. Under paragraph 2 of Article 4 of the Paris Agreement, each Party prepares and communicates to the UN Climate Change Secretariat the NDCs it intends to achieve and adheres to them. To achieve the goals of these contributions, Parties take national measures to mitigate climate change.

Countries' NAPs

UNEP helps countries around the world in their efforts to develop National Adaptation Plans (NAPs). The NAP process aims to identify medium- and long-term adaptation needs based on the latest advances in climate science. After identifying the main factors of vulnerability to climate change, the NAP process develops strategies to address them.
